Studio Shaft

Shaft, a Japanese animation studio based in Suginami, Tokyo, was founded in 1975 by Hiroshi Wakao. In 2004, Mitsutoshi Kubota became the CEO, and in 2015, the company reorganized from a limited company to a stock company. Known as Shaft Animation Studio, it has been influenced by director Akiyuki Shinbo since 2004, resulting in visually captivating and avant-garde works like Hidamari Sketch, Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, the Monogatari series, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Nisekoi, and March Comes In Like a Lion.
