STUDIO GHIBLI

Studio Ghibli Co., Ltd. began its operations in June 1985 as a subsidiary of Tokuma Shoten Co., Ltd. The studio’s founders, Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, aimed to produce animated films. Initially located in Kichijoji, they established their own studio at the current location in August 1992.

In June 1997, Studio Ghibli merged with Tokuma Shoten Co., Ltd. and became Tokuma Shoten Co., Ltd./Studio Ghibli Company, later known as Studio Ghibli Business Headquarters. In April 2005, Studio Ghibli Co., Ltd. took over the animation works and all business operations of Studio Ghibli as the new entity.
