Hayao Miyazaki
Hayao Miyazaki, born on January 5, 1941, is a Japanese animator, filmmaker, and manga artist. As a co-founder of Studio Ghibli, he is renowned worldwide for his exceptional storytelling and Japanese animated feature films.
Considered one of the most accomplished filmmakers in animation history, Miyazaki’s works explore themes such as humanity’s connection to nature, the value of traditional living, and the challenges of upholding pacifism. His films often feature strong female protagonists and complex antagonists.
Miyazaki’s contributions have earned him prestigious awards and recognition, including the Academy Honorary Award for his impact on animation and cinema in 2014. Despite retiring from feature films, he returned in 2016 to work on the highly anticipated upcoming film, How Do You Live? (2023).
